Technical Assistance for Data and Evidence Use (TADEU)
Partner: International Vaccine Institute Korea
Support: Fleming Fund Regional Grant (UK)
Status: On-going
Objectives: The project aims to provide technical assistance to enhance the production, quality,
and utilization of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data and evidence in Nepal. A key focus is to
conduct economic evaluations to assess the financial and health impacts of AMR, generating
evidence to inform sustainable policy decisions. The project is structured into two work
packages:
Work Package 1: Evaluates the costs and outputs of AMR surveillance across five sentinel sites
covering human health, animal health, and food sectors. These include two human health sites,
two animal health sites, and one food sector site, with three sites located outside Kathmandu
Valley and two within the valley.
Work Package 2: Focuses on assessing the effectiveness and impact of Antimicrobial
Stewardship (AMS) programs across four hospitals (three inside Kathmandu Valley and one
outside). This work package aims to develop standardized metrics to monitor, evaluate, and
enhance AMS programs, promoting evidence-based antimicrobial use in clinical settings.
Outcome: The project successfully established standardized protocols for collecting economic
and surveillance data, creating a robust evidence base to inform future AMR related policy
decisions in Nepal. Through technical assistance and capacity building, the project also
strengthened hospital-level AMS program monitoring, enabling data-driven stewardship
practices. This contributed to improved antimicrobial use in clinical settings, fostering a culture
of responsible prescribing and supporting multi-sectoral AMR response efforts across human,
animal, and food sectors.
