Disaster Preparedness
GTA places a strong emphasis on disaster preparedness as a means to foster community resilience and enhance response capabilities. One of the cornerstone initiatives in this effort was the WASH Program, implemented in the wake of the 2015 earthquake. This program focused on preventing the outbreak of enteric diseases in districts severely impacted by the disaster, including Nuwakot, Dhading, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur.
To further strengthen disaster preparedness, GTA conducted a comprehensive Rapid Risk Assessment across 14 of the most-affected districts. The assessment evaluated potential health risks, the likelihood of disease outbreaks, and the status of essential water and health facilities. The findings of this assessment provided critical data that helped design more effective and targeted response interventions.
In addition to these efforts, GTA organized Training Programs for local health teams in Rautahat, Sarlahi, Banke, Kathmandu, and Lalitpur. These programs were designed to equip health workers with the skills necessary to investigate health emergencies and respond promptly, particularly in the event of disease outbreaks.
As part of its comprehensive earthquake response, GTA also carried out several Disease Prevention Activities, which included identifying potential disease hotspots, conducting vaccination campaigns, and developing a detailed Preparedness and Response Plan for the Ministry of Health and Population.
