Mental Health Initiatives

Launched Zero-Suicide Advocacy for youth aged 18-24, along with community-based suicide prevention workshops, research assistant training, and collaborative strategies to strengthen mental health support in Nepal.

Description: GTA Foundation is driving impactful change in youth mental health, suicide prevention, and immunization coverage through innovative programs, advocacy, research, and capacity building. As part of its Zero-Suicide Advocacy program, GTA empowers youth aged 18-24 with awareness, intervention tools, and support systems to address suicide prevention. In October 2024, GTA organized the "Implementation Strategies for Suicide Prevention among Youth in Nepal" workshop, convening key stakeholders to develop collaborative, context- specific prevention strategies. Earlier, in August 2024, GTA trained research assistants on suicide prevention, equipping them with essential skills in mental health awareness, data collection, and effective intervention techniques.

The Implementation Strategies for Suicide Prevention among Youth in Nepal project, funded by the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH R21), is jointly led by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) Nepal, GTA Foundation, and Henry Ford Health. This project aims to assess the feasibility of evidence-based suicide prevention practices in Nepal, identifying key barriers and facilitators, and develop and evaluate tailored implementation strategies for at- risk youth. The team has completed initial surveys and interviews and is currently analyzing the data.

Through these integrated health initiatives, GTA Foundation continues to strengthen Nepal’s primary healthcare system, foster sustainable public health improvements, and promote the well- being of vulnerable communities.
