Disaster Relief, Preparedness & COVID-19 Response
Support/Partner: Give2Asia
Status: Phase Out
Objective: Between 2016 and 2024, GTA Foundation worked to strengthen disaster resilience
and provide critical support to communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.
Through its Disaster Relief & Response Program, GTA conducted disaster preparedness
activities such as first aid training, disaster response training for school students, teachers, and
community volunteers, as well as simulation exercises and emergency drills to help communities
prepare for earthquakes, floods, and landslides. GTA also carried out awareness campaigns
focused on climate change impacts, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and resilient infrastructure
planning. In terms of emergency response, GTA provided food, clean water, hygiene kits, shelter
materials, and medical support to disaster-affected populations across multiple districts.
During Nepal’s second wave of COVID-19, GTA responded to the compounded challenges of
the pandemic and monsoon-induced floods and landslides. With support from Give2Asia, relief
efforts extended to Melamchi and Helambu municipalities in Sindhupalchowk, where GTA
delivered emergency food packages, clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitation kits, and
temporary shelters to affected families.
Outcome: GTA supported disaster preparedness efforts in 8 municipalities, trained hundreds of
students, teachers, and community volunteers, and directly assisted over 2,000 households and
schools through relief distributions. Give2Asia also facilitated connections with donors, enabling
GTA to expand its relief and rescue operations to reach more disaster-affected families and
communities.
