Professional Training in AMS & IPC

Objective: Between 2016 and 2024, GTA conducted multiple Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training programs with the aim of strengthening capacity in antimicrobial resistance management. During this period, GTA provided AMS training to 145 health workers across all 7 provinces, conducted AMS and IPC training for 19 physicians and 15 nurses across 9 hospitals, and trained 151 pharmacists on responsible antibiotic dispensing. Specialized AMS programs were also carried out in burn and wound care hospitals. In addition, GTA supported the development of national antibiotic treatment guidelines in 2016 and 2019 and facilitated AMR surveillance and AMS programs in two hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley.

Outcome: Trained 2,570+ health professionals, developed national antibiotic treatment guidelines, conducted feasibility study in 4 hospitals, and surveyed 111 pharmacists across 5 districts
