Himalaya Home Care

Support: Nepal Government Ministry of Health and Population

Partner: Henry Ford Health Global Health Initiative

Objectives: Himalaya Home Care is an online platform consisting of a team of certified nurses and doctors, established under the leadership of the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Health and Population, Department of Health Services, Curative Service Division. Supported by Henry Ford Health Global Health Initiative, the platform was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide online counseling and remote healthcare services to home-isolated patients.

During the pandemic, Himalaya Home Care counseled over 13,000 home-isolated patients, ensuring they received medical guidance, mental health support, and necessary follow-ups. To aid in home-based care, the platform distributed full COVID-Care Kits including oximeters, masks, sanitizers, gloves, thermometers, and paracetamol to those in need, as well as semi-kits containing masks and sanitizers, along with infection prevention guidelines.

Outcome: Beyond COVID-19 response, Himalaya Home Care has actively contributed to infectious disease surveillance and control. The program supplied Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) kits for Cholera detection and provided training to over 800 health workers on disease surveillance and outbreak preparedness.

Through a combination of digital health services, capacity building, and emergency response, Himalaya Home Care continues to strengthen Nepal’s infectious disease prevention and control efforts, ensuring timely medical support for vulnerable communities.
