Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) Introduction in Nepal
A key achievement of our advocacy was the launch of Nepal's first-ever nationwide Typhoid
Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) program, which ran from April 8, 2022 to May 1, 2022. GTA actively
participated in this historic campaign, which targeted children aged 15 months to 15 years for
vaccination. Prior to the campaign’s launch, GTA, in collaboration with the Family Welfare
Division of the Ministry of Health and Population and the Typhoid Vaccine Acceleration
Consortium, conducted the feasibility study, organized an Interaction and Discussion program
with education sector stakeholders, supported the planning meeting, preparation of job-aids,
guidelines and BCC materials.. This program aimed to engage and inform key stakeholders,
awareness and monitoring of the TCV vaccination program. A major milestone was the
integration of the TCV into Nepal's National Immunization Program, ensuring that future
generations will receive routine protection against typhoid. It was supported by PATH, USA.
GTA conducted the post-marketing study and vaccination for typhoid polysaccharide vaccine to
150,000 students of Kathmandu valley. It was supported by the International Vaccine Institute,
Korea.
