Systematic Review on Strengthening Information system on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights

The systematic review on "Strengthening Information Systems on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)" provided valuable insights into the current status and challenges of Nepal's information systems related to SRHR, and identified gaps in reporting and monitoring SRHR indicators.

One of the key highlights of the research was the emphasis on the lack of awareness surrounding essential SRHR topics among community members. Issues such as sexual health, hygiene, early pregnancy, and safe sex practices were noted as areas where many individuals, especially within rural areas, lacked adequate knowledge. This gap in understanding leads to misconceptions and risky behaviors that further complicate the effective implementation of SRHR programs.

The role of the Health Management Information System (HMIS) and District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2) in shaping SRHR policies was also a focal point of the discussions. Despite the Ministry and provincial governments having developed comprehensive SRHR guidelines, significant gaps were observed, particularly in addressing the unique needs of adolescents aged 10-19. This group is highly vulnerable to misinformation and harmful practices, underscoring the necessity of creating targeted interventions for their sexual and reproductive health education.

Continued efforts are required to improve the information systems and address the gaps identified in the review to shape the SRHR landscape in Nepal. Strengthening awareness, especially among adolescents, and improving reporting mechanisms at all levels of the health system will be key to achieving sustainable progress in SRHR.
