PEP Phase II Activities Officially Kicked Off A Strong Step Toward Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

On May 19th, the PEP team officially launched Phase II activities in close collaboration with VSDRL, CVL, and DLS. This new phase began with a one-day workshop attended by 20 dedicated PEP farmers from across the Kathmandu Valley.

The workshop focused on the pressing issue of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), highlighting key findings from Phase I and delving into common poultry diseases, particularly E. coli, which has demonstrated alarming resistance to widely used antibiotics.

Participants engaged in comprehensive discussions on the current landscape of broiler farming, with a strong emphasis on the pivotal role farmers play in curbing the irrational use of antimicrobials. Using tools such as confidence questionnaires, group discussions, and interactive activities, the team worked to assess knowledge gaps and identify strategic priorities for Phase II interventions. This collective commitment marks a meaningful milestone for the PEP initiative and reinforces its leadership in advancing Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) in Nepal.

A heartfelt thank you to AMROH Consultant Dr. Harriet Emily Thornton and PEP Project Officer Dr. Dipendra Lamsal for their unwavering support and contributions in inspiring farmers to rethink their practices in the fight against this silent pandemic.Together, we are forging a path toward a healthier, more sustainable future.
