Lessons Learned Workshop on Cholera Preparedness and Response in Nepal
To address the potential threat of cholera, the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division
(EDCD) of the Department of Health Services implemented the Comprehensive Targeted
Intervention (CTI) for Cholera Control in the Kathmandu Valley in 2016. This report
summarizes the proceedings of a workshop held on 15 December 2016 at the Himalaya Hotel in
Lalitpur, aimed at reflecting on the successes and challenges of the CTI project and Nepal’s
broader cholera control efforts.
Workshop Objectives
The primary goal of the workshop was to enhance government-led preparedness and response for
cholera outbreaks. Specifically, the workshop sought to:
- Bring together key stakeholders to assess cholera preparedness and response efforts.
- Discuss lessons learned from the 2016 cholera response and identify best practices.
- Document insights and recommendations to inform a national cholera preparedness and response plan.
By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, this workshop played a crucial role in strengthening Nepal’s capacity to combat cholera and prevent future outbreaks. Download
