Relief Program in Melamchi

On Asadh 27, 2078 (July 2021), torrential rains unleashed devastating floods and landslides in Melamchi, displacing countless families and plunging the community into crisis. Many sought temporary refuge at Indrasarobar High School, hoping for safety amid the chaos.

In response, various organizations mobilized to provide relief. Among them was Group for Technical Assistance (GTA), a Kathmandu-based local NGO, which partnered with Melamchi Municipality to support 100 severely affected households.

GTA’s relief package included essential food items, tents, mattresses, and 100 crates of clean drinking water offering immediate comfort and security to families who had lost nearly everything.

“I was overwhelmed with happiness to receive such timely and generous help during one of the most difficult phases of our lives,” shared a 51-year-old recipient of the aid. “I sincerely thank all the supporting hands and the organization for standing by us with such humility and compassion.”

GTA’s support has played a vital role in improving livelihoods, ensuring access to food, safeguarding health, and supporting mental well-being. This coordinated act of solidarity stands as a powerful testament to how timely humanitarian assistance can rekindle hope and resilience in communities affected by disaster.
